Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Hemet Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school-year! It is truly an honor to be a part of the re-opening of Hemet Elementary School and our district’s first Spanish/ English Dual Language Immersion Program (Two-Way Bilingual Immersion) and Project Lead the Way (S.T.E.A.M.). Please know that you have my commitment and I will work hard alongside our principal and dedicated staff to create a campus that supports our school’s programs. As a school community, we will work diligently to foster communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, innovation and positive cross-cultural competence. We are truly making history and am honored to be your assistant principal!
I am a proud UCLA graduate and feel it is important to share that I was the first in my family to graduate from college. My background and life experiences have instilled in me a sense of responsibility to serve and empower others. I have served 13 years in this district. Most recently, I was the assistant principal of Jacob Wiens Elementary School here in the Hemet Unified School District. Prior to that I was an instructional coach and worked with all elementary, middle, and high schools in our district and also served as an elementary school teacher at Winchester Elementary School. I have an amazing 22-year-old son who is a West Valley High graduate, an adventurous 6-year-old daughter who is currently attending a Spanish/ English Dual Immersion program at a nearby school, and three playful dogs.
I truly believe every student has a different dream for their future - their potential as wide open as their possibilities. With every dream, there's a path waiting to be taken, discoveries to be made and abilities to be realized. And that's where we come in: to inspire, to guide, to challenge and to nurture. At Hemet Elementary, we will provide a journey of excellence for each of our students. We will guide them through the use of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) strategies so that they may feel empowered to apply self-control, self-discipline and reach the goals they set for themselves after leaving us.
As a parent and your assistant principal, please know that relationships and community engagement is very important to me. We recognized that the social/ emotional development is as essential to student success as academics. Therefore our goal is to provide a time for students to build connections with teachers and peers and to build a stronger sense of community and ownership. By addressing student learning needs and behaviors from a place of trust and positive relationships, students are better able to make good choices during learning as well as outside the classroom. Family support is also a very important factor. I have seen firsthand the positive impact of family engagement on student success and school improvement. I encourage all families to take an active role in their children's education. We will have several opportunities for family engagement including literacy and STEAM nights, a cultural fair, parent committees, and many other engagement and volunteer opportunities. With your support and partnership, “The Sky is the Limit!” I’m looking forward to serving you and our little scholars!
