My name is Lena Abella-Saunders and I am so excited to be the counselor at Hemet Elementary School. I have been a school counselor for 17 years, first at the middle school level, and am now in my 5th year in elementary. I have extensive experience working with students and families from a wide range of backgrounds and am passionate about helping children realize their potential. I am committed to assisting Hemet El scholars in any way I can. Whether there are social, emotional, academic or behavioral concerns, I am ready to be of service!

What does a school counselor do?
School counselors work closely with parents, teachers, and staff to provide integral behavioral, college/career and social-emotional support for students. At the elementary level, school counselors provide the following services:
Individual short term counseling
Group counseling
Social skills training
Behavioral support
Classroom lessons
Risk assessments
Parent training/support
Conflict mediation
Data collection
Referrals to outside agencies
